The challenge
Roger and Sue live in a modern two-storey home in Darvel, near Kilmarnock. With solar panels already on the roof, they’d been thinking about a heat pump for a while. So when their old boiler packed in, the timing was perfect.
Then they found Aira. A smarter heat pump, a hassle-free switch, and a 15-year guarantee all in one place. The decision was easy.
The challenge? Like many modern homes, theirs required a carefully tailored system that could integrate with existing pipework and electrics, without taking up too much space or disrupting the flow of their utility room.

Our solution
One of our Clean Energy Experts visited Roger and Sue for a free home energy assessment, walking them through how the Aira system works and outlining exactly what their switch would involve. All before conducting a heat loss calculation and providing a price-locked quote.
Once they accepted, we guided Roger and Sue through the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan process, helping them understand what they were eligible for and how to apply. Through the scheme, the couple secured £7,500 off the cost of their system.
Following a technical survey, our designers created a bespoke system tailored to their home. It included a 8kW Aira Heat Pump placed down the side of the home, along with a 250L Aira Indoor Unit, and a 100L buffer tank, all initially to be installed in the utility room.
During the installation, one of our Clean Energy Technicians, Dylan, noticed an opportunity to make the system even better – something that couldn’t have been spotted during the initial design phase. By adjusting the buffer tank’s placement, he freed up more space in the utility room. Creating a cleaner, more practical setup.
Roger and Sue loved the idea, so we made the tweak. The result? A tidier, more user-friendly setup that works even better for their home.

Roger & Sue’s verdict
“The whole installation process was really straightforward.
The Aira technicians were particularly excellent. Friendly, helpful, and incredibly tidy. They covered all the floors and cleaned up after themselves every evening.
One of the things we love about living with a heat pump – besides how easy the app is to use – is that we barely need to touch the system at all. It always keeps the house at a steady 20°C to 21°C degrees, whatever the weather.
Our first winter with the Aira Heat Pump was a joy. The temperature was consistent, and we saved around 50% on our energy bills in January and February compared to last year.
We’re genuinely delighted, and we’d recommend Aira to anyone.”

“We came across an article in The Guardian about Aira. And we thought, if a heat pump can keep a Swedish home warm, it can definitely do the same for our home in Scotland. And it does.”

Tony, Dumbarton
“I’m really happy with the result. If I compare winter 2023, before my switch, with winter 2024, I saved about 20% on my energy bills.”
