When Tony moved into his new home in Dumbarton, he knew the ageing gas boiler (already 20 years old) wasn’t going to cut it.

Wanting a more future-friendly alternative, he started looking into clean energy solutions. That’s when he discovered Aira.

The challenge

Tony’s modern two-storey detached home had a tired, outdated gas boiler and a central heating system that needed a serious upgrade. Rather than replace it like-for-like, Tony wanted a long-term solution that matched his values. Something cleaner, more efficient, and better for the planet.

After researching a range of heat pump providers, Aira stood out. With Swedish roots and decades of experience in cold-climate heating, Tony felt confident he’d found the right partner.

The switch required careful design to integrate our advanced Aira Heat Pump with the home’s existing pipework and electrical setup. And because Tony was used to a compact gas boiler, it was important that our indoor unit fit neatly into his home without disrupting the layout.

Our solution

One of our Clean Energy Experts visited Tony for a free home energy assessment, walking him through how the Aira system works and outlining exactly what his switch would involve. All before providing a price-locked quote.

Once he accepted, we guided Tony through the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan process, helping him understand what he was eligible for and how to apply. Through the scheme, Tony secured £7,500 off the cost of his system.

Our designers created a bespoke system tailored to his home. It included a 6kW Aira Heat Pump, a 250L Aira Indoor Unit, and a 40L buffer tank – all thoughtfully placed to fit seamlessly into his space, with the Indoor Unit and buffer tank tucked neatly away in the garage.

When it came time to set up the system, our Clean Energy Technicians spotted a smarter route for the pipework. The kind of detail that only becomes clear once installation begins. It meant less disruption to Scott’s existing central heating system and a cleaner, more efficient install overall.

Tony’s verdict

“I looked at several heat pump installers, but chose Aira because they’re Scandinavian. I figured, if anyone knows heat pumps, it’s the Scandinavians. They’ve been heating their homes this way for 30 years, and in one of the coldest places on Earth.

So, for me, Aira was a no-brainer.

I’m really happy with the result. If I compare winter 2023, before my switch, with winter 2024, I saved about 20% on my energy bills.”

“We came across an article in The Guardian about Aira. And we thought, if a heat pump can keep a Swedish home warm, it can definitely do the same for our home in Scotland. And it does.”
