No. Installing a heat pump isn’t a job for even the most capable of handy types. It needs a trained professional. An MCS-certified professional to be exact.

That’s why our MCS-certified Aira Technicians handle the entire installation from start to finish. They’ll make sure your system is set up for peak performance, and show you how to get the most from it for years to come.

How long does it take to install a heat pump?

Most installations take around 3 to 4 days, but every home is different.

On day one, our Aira Technicians will walk you through the plan and let you know roughly how long your installation is expected to take. From there, they’ll keep you updated every step of the way, working efficiently and respectfully to keep disruption to a minimum.

What happens during installation?

Before the install, your lead technician will give you a quick courtesy call, just to say hello and to make sure you’re ready. They’ll also let you know if there’s anything helpful you can do, like clearing space around your radiators or outdoor unit area.

The first day is all about prep. You’ll meet our team and get a clear rundown of the installation process. We’ll answer any questions you have and make sure you’re comfortable with the plan. After that, we get straight to work. We start by laying down protective sheeting throughout your home, keeping things clean and showing your space the respect it deserves.

We’ll then typically begin installing the outdoor unit. Why? Because it means we can get a big portion of the job done without touching your existing heating or hot water. That way, you’re not left without essentials for longer than necessary.

Next, we’ll get the rest of the hardware into place. The indoor unit, the buffer tank, and hot water cylinder or radiators, if needed. It’s also when we remove your old gas boiler, which we’ll recycle for you, of course.

If pipe upgrades are required to support your new heat pump, this is when they go in. Some homes need more than others, but our team is trained to make it all as smooth and tidy as possible.

By day two or three, we’re typically starting to connect the system – doing hot and cold water runs, linking up heating circuits, and checking that everything’s watertight and ready to go.

When everything is installed, we’ll commission the system, run through the final checks, and make sure everything is working perfectly. Before we leave, we’ll give you a full demonstration of how to use the system, explain maintenance tips, and answer any last-minute questions.

We tidy up as we go, but we always do a final once-over at the end to make sure your home is left just as we found it. Neat, tidy, and ready to enjoy cleaner, more affordable heating.

Do I need to be home at the time of installation?

We’ll need you home on day one so our Aira Technicians can walk you through the plan and answer any questions. After that, you can leave it to us.

Most installations take three to four days, so we'll need access to your home during that time. But, we’ll aim to crack on with minimal disruption, tidying things up as we go.

Will I be without hot water and heating during installation?

On the first day of your heat pump installation, our Aira Technicians will keep you fully informed about any temporary service interruptions (whether that’s gas, water, or electricity). We’ll provide you with a clear timeline so you’ll know exactly when heating and hot water will be back up and running.

While there may be a brief period without hot water or heating, we’ll work quickly and efficiently to get everything restored, making the process as smooth as possible for you. You’ll always know what to expect, and we’ll make sure to keep disruptions to a minimum.
