Wherever you are in the UK, there are government grants and incentives available to make switching to a heat pump more affordable.
- Live in England or Wales? The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers up to £9,000 off a heat pump when replacing an oil or LPG boiler — or £7,500 for gas boilers.
- In Scotland, there’s a £7,500 grant (£9,000 for rural homes) and a £7,500 interest-free loan.
- For low-income households across the UK, the ECO4 scheme can cover the full cost of clean energy upgrades.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (England & Wales)
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (or ‘BUS’ for short) gives eligible homes a grant of £7,500 to replace a gas boiler – or up to £9,000 when replacing an oil or LPG boiler – with a clean energy heat pump.

Home Energy Scotland Grant & Loan (Scotland)
Provides up to £15,000 in funding to install a heat pump – made up of a £7,500 grant and a £7,500 interest-free loan. An additional £1,500 grant is available for eligible rural homes.

ECO4 (low income homes, UK)
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme is designed to help lower-income households cut their energy bills and improve home efficiency with fully-funded clean energy improvements.


England & Wales: The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) gives you £7,500 to replace a gas boiler – or up to £9,000 for an oil or LPG boiler – with an air source heat pump.

Scotland: Home Energy Scotland Grant & Loan
With the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan, residents in Scotland can access up to £15,000 in funding to install a heat pump. This includes a £7,500 grant and a £7,500 interest-free loan.
Individuals in rural areas may be eligible for even more. There’s up to £16,500 in funding available, of which £9,000 is a grant and £7,500 is an interest-free loan.
This means you could switch to an Aira Heat Pump for as little as £62.50 per month.*

Low-income households: ECO4 scheme
If you, or someone in your home, receives benefits such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit, or Child Tax Credit, you could qualify for the ECO4 scheme.
This government-backed initiative is designed for low-income households and provides fully funded clean energy upgrades, including insulation, solar panels, and an Aira Heat Pump.
There’s also 0% VAT to pay
Need more reasons to switch? Clean energy home improvements, like switching to a heat pump, installing solar panels and insulating your home, are exempt from VAT until 31st March 2027.
That means you pay 20% less to make your home more energy efficient.
