Winter with an Aira Heat Pump

While the warmer months are behind us, winter with an Aira Heat Pump is like a summer breeze. There’s no more fiddling with controls. No more extreme ups and downs in your heating. Just a consistently cosy indoor temperature.

Here’s what to expect as your heating kicks in. And a few simple checks to help it run at peak efficiency.

When does my Aira Heat Pump start heating?

With Aira Intelligence, your Heat Pump always knows when to begin heating your home:

  • If your home is already at your set indoor temperature, your system won’t heat.
  • If your home drops below it and the outdoor conditions make heating worthwhile, it steps in.

What are the outdoor conditions that trigger heating?

  • Average outdoor temperature falls below 20°C for 24 hours
  • Average falls below 18°C for 3 hours
  • Average falls below 16°C for 1 hour

What to know as your heating kicks in

1. Give it time to warm up

Your heat pump knows when your home needs heating and will start automatically. It might take a little longer to reach your set temperature, but that’s by design. By avoiding constant on-off cycles, it keeps your home cosy while running efficiently.

2. Expect more power consumption

As temperatures drop, your heat pump will naturally use more electricity to keep your home warm. Don’t worry, it’s still much more efficient than a boiler. Even in winter, Aira Intelligence is working behind the scenes to keep your home cosy for less.

Smart moves for efficient heating

  • Keep your radiator temperature dials open: Also known as the thermostatic radiator valves, keeping them open allows your heat pump to work more efficiently. Adjust your indoor temperature using the Aira app or thermostat.
  • Avoid frequent temperature changes: Constant adjustments can reduce your heat pump's efficiency. Set your preferred temperature and let your heat pump do the rest.

  • Leave your thermostat in its dock: The placement of your thermostat is intentional and essential to your system’s performance. Moving it may interfere with heating efficiency and accuracy.

How to prepare your Aira Heat Pump for winter

Throughout the colder months, your Aira Heat Pump will take pretty good care of itself. But a few quick checks from you can help it run efficiently all winter long.

1. Bleed your radiators

Bleeding your radiators once a year relieves air bubbles to help them heat optimally. Watch how it’s done.

4. Make sure your heating is switched on

You didn’t need to switch your heating off over summer. But if you did, it’s easy to turn back on. Open your Aira app, go to Indoor Temperature > Settings > Allowed Modes and make sure heating is enabled.

Winter with a heat pump is different than a boiler

Your heat pump heats gradually. It’s natural.

Just like it's more fuel-efficient for your car to accelerate slowly from 0 to 60, the same goes for your heat pump.

It heats your home more gradually and actively maintains a consistently cosy indoor temperature. Unlike an inefficient boiler that heats in short, on-off bursts.

You might notice that your radiators feel cooler to the touch, or that your home takes a bit longer to reach a new set temperature. But don’t worry. It’s natural.

Set it. Forget it. Let your heat pump do the rest.

With Aira Intelligence, your heat pump auto-adjusts to your daily routines and the weather to heat your home and hot water with optimal efficiency.

For the best energy savings, avoid adjusting settings too often and let your heat pump do the work.

And for peace of mind, your intelligent system monitors itself and updates our team to ensure optimal performance without interruption.
