Winter with a heat pump

Welcome to winter without a gas-guzzling boiler.

If you didn’t know already, heating your home with a heat pump is very different from using a boiler. There’s no more fiddling with controls. No more extreme ups and downs in your heating. Just a consistently cosy indoor temperature.

Throughout winter, your heat pump will take care of itself, but there are a few things you can do to ensure it stays efficient and maximises your energy savings.

Got an Aira Heat Pump?

1. Bleed your radiators

Bleeding your radiators once a year relieves air bubbles to help them heat optimally. Watch how it’s done.

2. Check your system’s pressure

Checking your system for low pressure will help prevent inefficiency and damage. Watch how.

3. Remove clutter from around your heat pump

Your outdoor unit works best with clear airflow on all sides. Clear away plants, leaves and any clutter. Watch our guide to learn what to look for.

Smart moves for efficient heating

  • Keep your radiator temperature dials open: Also known as the thermostatic radiator valves, keeping them open allows your heat pump to work more efficiently. Adjust your indoor temperature using your app or thermostat.
  • Avoid frequent temperature changes: Constant adjustments can reduce your heat pump's efficiency. Set your preferred temperature and let your heat pump do the rest.

  • Leave your thermostat in its dock: The placement of your thermostat is intentional and essential to your system’s performance. Moving it may interfere with heating efficiency and accuracy.

Winter with a heat pump is different than a boiler

Your heat pump heats gradually. It’s natural.

Just like it's more fuel-efficient for your car to accelerate slowly from 0 to 60, the same goes for your heat pump.

It heats your home more gradually and actively maintains a consistent cosy indoor temperature. Unlike an inefficient boiler that heats in short, on-off bursts.

You might notice that your radiators feel cooler to the touch, or that your home takes a bit longer to reach a new set temperature. But don’t worry. It’s natural.

Set it. Forget it. Let your heat pump do the rest.

For the best energy savings, avoid adjusting settings too often and let your heat pump do the work.

It’s designed to maintain a cosy indoor temperature efficiently, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy consistent warmth without the hassle of constant tweaks.
